Much to Gentry's disgust, the common room was filled with his housemates that night. Talking, 'studying', and even a few make out sessions were starting to take a toll on his nerves. And all poor Gentry wanted was to write a damn letter to his father. "Mind if I sit here?" Gentry glanced up at the ignorant first year that was pointing to one of the empty seats infront of him. With a sigh, he sat back in his seat. "No." "What? Why?" One eyebrow arched elegantly in suprise. Gentry exaimined the naive fool that had question him before leaning fordward, motioning the first year closer. Hesitantly, the first year did so. "I'm writing poetry." "Poetry?" Was the shocked response. Christ, this kid was acting like he was some sort of heartless brute... "Yes, for my girlfriend." "Really?" Gentry snorted in amuesment, pulling his wand out, knocking the poor boy unconsious before he could react. "No." He sighed, sitting back in his seat once more and looking around for someone with which he could have a decent conversation.

Jessica had been watching from across the room while attempting to finish some of her homework. She knew that the first year was in for it the second he tried talking to Gentry. She closed her books and got up to sit next to Gentry. "Now now Gentry, don't kill of all the first years. They're excellent for running errands." Jessica smiled. Of course, what else would first years be good for?

"Oh, don't you worry for a second darling Jessica. I wouldn't dare kill off your little errand runners. Knocking them out does give me some satisfaction though. I've got a terrible migrain and I've felt like a complete fool all day..." He glanced around the common room before sighing, staring down at his unfinished letter. "Father expects me to write him this week," He told her wearily. "I can't think of a single damn thing I want to say to him."

Jessica shook her head in mock disappointment. "As long as you don't addle their brains too much, do whatever you wish to them." Jessica yawned, the long day finally starting to catch up with her. Jessica never had a problem writing to her father, she /was/ daddy's little girl. "Write and tell him that I'm coming over to your house for Christmas break. I've already talked about it briefly to my father." She suggested drowsily.

"Oh I couldn't possibly Jessica. Its to late for most of them now. Poor first years, only a few really surivive with their wits," Gentry said with a mock sigh. He eyed Jessica before nodding, grabbing his quill and adding to his letter. "Busy day darling Jess?"

Jessica chuckled, that was certainly true. They couldn't tell their firewhisky from their butterbeer to save their lives. She lazily watched him scratch on the paper a note about her spending the vacation with them. She liked spending vacation with her family usually, but she didn't mind spending it with the DeBeaux's. Plus, she might not be there the whole time if they stage their break up at a reasonable time. "Quite." She mumbled, not really wanting to talk about it. It was another long day of classes, and who was she paired up with in potions? You guessed it, darling Blair. They ended up just arguing the entire class period and blowing up three desks, causing half the kids to get splattered with some foul smelling poison. She'd gotten just the night of detention with Blair, her own personal hell.

"Tch, well you can tell me about when your ready... You know big brother Gentry is here to help," He mused, shooting Jessica a, rare but honest, comforting smile. He paused, leaning fordward and inhaling slightly before smiling, "I thought you were good in potions?"

Jessica sighed, yes she was good at potions. It was one of the few classes she actually did the homework for herself. She looked up at Gentry with a pained smile, "Well, it wasn't exactly a good class today. The teacher decided that it was his turn to pick pairs, just to "spice things up a little". Of course, as luck has it I was paired with my dear friend Blair. We blew up the potion during our fighting and caused half the class to get showered in poison. Luckily, we had the sense to get below the desk. But, even with all of my charm, I still got a day of detention. It was the last class of the day so detention started immediately. Blair and I had to pop all the pustules that the poison had caused, apparently the pus is helpful in healing potions. It was disgusting." Jessica scowled at the thought. Not one of her better days.

Gentry clicked his tounge, setting his quill aside. Latching his foot around Jessica's chair, he slowley pulled her closer. "Looks like someone needs a hug from Big Brother Gentry. Please don't refuse or I'll feel like an idiot for even offering," Gentry admitted with a sheepish grin. He leaned nearer and added, "Oh and speaking of Big Brotherly-ness. Should we discuss your dating habits and should I be glaring at Dalton any time soon? You know I won't accept any roving hands on my Sweet Little Jess."

Jessica smiled and wrapped her arms around him. "Have I ever refused you a hug? Well, okay maybe I have once or twice." She settled in Gentry's chair with a sly smile. "Don't worry dear brother, we haven't done anything wrong. Well, I suppose our definitions of wrong may be a bit different."

"Well, since our definitions of wrong are pretty much same, I'll have to take your word for it. I'll admit I suppose I'm looking for a good reason to turn him into an animal... Don't tell him I said that, though, or else he'll turn me into some sort of sissy poodle or something before I get around to transfiguring him..." Gentry mused with a frown. "Of course I'd be the sexiest damn poodle in the country, but /still/."

Jessica giggled at the thought of a Gentry-poodle. Actually, that's a perfect nickname. "Gentrypoodlekins, I love the new nickname. And, don't turn him into anything too terrible, if you have to do this at all. What's with all of your guys fights anyways?" Jessica inquired. She was used to it, but she'd never asked why they always did.

"I have a feeling our ego's are to large to remain in the same room together. That and I suspect he doesn't like the fact that we're friends, you and I," Gentry mused with a smile. "Maybe he feels threatened by my masculinity. What with being a buff charmer and all."

Jessica laughed lightly, yes they both had terribly large egos. Although, she couldn't really talk. She wasn't lacking in the ego department herself. "Your masculinity? I'm sure that when your new nickname spreads you'll start losing that" Jessica rolled her eyes, Gentry really was full of himself.
