Satrina woke up early so she could mark her territory by the fire. It was a rainy Saturday morning and there was nothing to do but do homework. She found a nice lounger tucked in the right corner of the fireplace landing. "It will do nicely" she thought. She unpacked her bag and placed her books into piles by the chair. She could here scuffing on the stairs and knew she was no longer alone.

Kendall dragged her feet through the portrait hole, her spirits getting lower and lower every step. Not only did she almost get drowned by the squid, she now had a week worth of detentions from McGonagall for being out past curfew the other night, and then being late to meet her. She sat down near the fire, not noticing Satrina across from her. Alex was going to kill her for getting detention, since she would have to miss some quidditch practices.

Alex trooped up to the commons room drenched in sweat. He had just come from a long one person Quidditch practice session and he was exhausted. Her stepped through the door and looked around the room. He saw Kendall sitting by the fire and walked over to see how her meeting went. "So, what's the damage? Only a day or two right?" He asked hopefully. "We can't take any more than that.."

Kendall bit her lip and shook her head slowly. " 'Fraid not...a week." she replied. Before he could say anything, she blurted, "I'm so sorry Alex! I didn't think she would actually give me a weeks worth."

Alex's smile quickly dissapeared. A week? Does she not think about the team at all? She's our seeker, she needs to be on top of things. We'll be hopeless if she's not up to par.. "That's fine.. we'll work around it. It's no big deal." He said, an icy tone to his voice. He threw himself down on the couch with an unreadable expression on his face.

Kendall was about to say she was sorry again, but shut her mouth. Of course it was a big deal, especially to him. This team was a big part of his life, and she knew she just messed things up. "Alex..." But she couldn't think of anything to say.

"No, it's fine. Don't worry about it, I can work around this.." Alex muttered. Of course, all of his tactics that he had been planning since summer revolved around the seeker. He needed to have her at practice to use any of his ideas. "I can, it might be hard.. but I can."

Kendall sighed and looked away from him, toward the window. She hated to cause trouble for Alex. "I'll work extra hard next week. You can keep me out there from dusk to dawn and I swear not to complain." she pleaded. She couldn't stand when they weren't on good talking terms.

"Yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Any complaining and there might be some trouble." He nodded siriusly. ( <3 ) "I won't work you that hard, I need you alive for the match. We don't have anyone nearly as good as you that could take your place.." Alex sighed sinking into the couch.

Dang... "Um, yeah...I would like to be alive for our first match too." she said. She was mentally guarding herself for a slap in the face. It wasn't that big of a joke, but maybe now wouldn't be the best time for any level of sarcasm. "I'm sorry...again."

"Yeah, we can't play without a seeker. We have to play.. I'm a Wood. The first Wood since my father to be captain of a Quidditch team. I can't let him down.. I have to try. I have to give it everything I've got, or else he'll be dissapointed, and so will I." Alex sighed. "It's my life."

"I know I really let you down Alex, and I hate it. But there's nothing I can do about it now. I've already begged McGonagall to let me at least practice with you guys. And yes, I know that your the only other Wood to be captain, and I'm extatic for you; but quidditch is my life too and its going to kill me to sit in detention while you guys are all happy go lucky on brooms playing quidditch." she replied, getting to her feet quickly and throwing herself down into a chair by the window, keeping her face away from his view as hot tears started to stream down her face.

"Yeah, well you don't have the pressure from your father. My dad is constantly riding on me. I get letters from him every day with tips and ideas for Quidditch. It's never a 'Hey Son, how's school? Like your classes? Meet any girls?' It's always just Quidditch. He's counting on me to live up to the Wood name. I have no choice but to win this year..." Alex ranted. He loved his father, but he did get way too into the Quidditch mindset.

"Well then go tell him, don't lay it all out on me. I said I was sorry and I'd make up for it." Kendall snapped back, brushing away her tears and keeping her eyes glued to the oak tree outside the window.

Alex bit his lip in frustration. "You're right. Sorry Kendall. I'm just.. really stressed out this year. I think I'm going to quit the team and give the Captaincy to you. My dad wouldn't be happy, but he couldn't bother me anymore if I quit.." He sighed and closed his eyes trying to clear his thoughts.
