Starla had been in the library for hours searching for a book. Not just any book, but the book that might contain the secret to solving the mystery her family had been trying to unravel for centuries. One of her fellow Ravenclaws had mentioned seeing something about the elusive Crumple-Horned Snorkack's in one of the books. Unfortunately for Starla, the book had been put away weeks ago and the librarian had no recollection of where. Years before, Dumbledore had mixed all of the books together in hopes that while searching for what you were looking for you might find something else and expand your knowledge. Starla was a supporter of this idea, but she had to admit she was getting quite frustrated. She was so close to finding it, and yet so far. She was hesitant to give up that day as she had a feeling in her heart that she would find it if she stayed just a little longer. She continued down the long winding rows of books looking high and low for any trace of the book.

Amity was down the bookcases a ways, looking at a book. It had creatures she'd never seen in it. She was a little weirded out, she always loved magical creatures and thought she had known every one. But, apparantly, she didn't. She walked up the rows of bookcases, her head down, looking at the book. Quite suddenly she crashed into someone...

Starla let out a quick yelp as she was knocked to the ground, as she too was engrossed in the books surrounding her. She got up and bushed her robes off. "Sorry about that, my fault completely. I should be paying more attention. It's just.. I'm trying to find this book. But, you probably don't care.. Do you need help up?" Starla started to ramble, but she caught herself before she could continue. She offered Amity her hand to help her up.

"No, no. It's my fault, my mom always told me not to read and walk." she took the offered hand and picked up the book as she stood. She gave a sort of nervous laugh. "I just found this book and it has all sorts of strange creatures in it. I've seen a few of these, but some of them I've never even heard of!" She was at it again, her rambling when she got excited about something. "Sorry!" she said, catching herself for once. "You probably don't care about weird creatures anyway..."

Starla's attention was instantly captured at the mention of any sort of creature, especially weird creatures. "What kind of creatures? you may have just found exactly what I was looking for. I've been looking for a book called.. oh what was it.. Oh! It's called "Stories of the Lesser Known Magical Creatures and Where to Find Them". It's got some information on the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. My family has been searching for years for them. But, you'll probably think I'm crazy. Most people don't think they exist." Starla rambled on. She wasn't used to people taking an interest in odd creatures and reading up on them, so she was excited.

Amity looked at the cover. "Its all washed out... I can only make out a few words." she said, frowning a bit. "But I don't think you're crazy. Magical Creatures of any sort are amazing, how they live all around us and the muggles know nothing about it. If anything, I'm crazy. At least you grow up with others like you. My entire family thinks I'm nuts, except maybe Allie." she caught herself rambling again, and she stopped herself. "I'm Amity Laurens by the way, 6th year, Hufflepuff." she didn't know why, whenever she introduced herself to other wizards/witches, she always said her year and house. It was a personality quirk, she guessed.

Starla smiled, glad to have met someone that had quirks like her. "Nice to meet you. I'm Starla Lovegood, 5th year, Ravenclaw. Did you see anything in there about the Crumpel-Horned Snorkack? They're not quite as popular as other odd animals, most people don't even believe they exist. A live specimen hasn't been seen in years. It's been my family's.. purpose almost, to try and find them but most people put us down." Starla trailed off after her last comment. She was usually not bothered by people that made fun of her, but it did hurt. She didn't have many friends and she got pretty lonely, but maybe she got lucky by bumping into Amity.

Amity grinned. "That's awesome that your family supports you. When I get otu of here, I want to see all therare magical creatures. That would be so awesome, to say, 'Hey, I've seen that before!' when someone's talking about weird creatures." she said with a sigh. She, like Starla, was used to people calling her an insane nutjob and ignoring her or making fun of her. She flipped to the Table of Contents and ran her finger down the page. She stopped and began flipping pages, walking over to a table and gesturing for Starla to follow. "I think I found it!"

Starla followed after excited to have found something about her beloved creature after years of searching. "That's exactly it! See the horns! It's perfect." She flipped through the pages, her eyes scanning though the information faster than a bullet speeding towards it's victim. "I guess they support me, but my family's never around. My mom's always at work. And my grandfather was killed in the struggle against Voldemort."

Amity frowned, remembering her own losses in that battle. "I-I'm so sorry Starla." she said, not really knowing what else to say. It was the same way with her parents, almost, her dad was always at work at the Ministrey, and her mother.... Was like Starla's grandfather. She decided to try and change to a lighter subject. "So that's the Crumpel-Horned Snorkack? Cool. What do you guys know about it?"

Starla forced a smile. It was hard for her to think about her family. She'd always wondered what it would be like to have grown up in a normal family atmosphere. What would have happened if her father.. hadn't been killed by the Malfoy's. And if her grandfather had made it out of the Death Eater's clutches. If her mother could have been around more than once a week. But, she couldn't think of that now. "Yeah, that's it all right. There's not much we know, except that it's horns are highly poisonous when melted into a potion. Nothing can combat it's effects."

Amity whistled. "Wow. Wouldn't want an enemy to get their hands on that." she said, forcing a smile of her own. Now her mind was caught on her mother, how she herself had seen the Death Eaters kill her, thank God she was fast on her feet. But... She had seen the Death Eater kill her mum. If that isn't life-scarring, I don't know what is. she thought bitterly. She'd been at Quidditch lessons, her mother, a muggle, had taken her when her father had been caught at work... So Amity had gotten away. But her father had never gotten over it, he always blamed himself. She missed the good old days...

"Yeah. But, if we could find them, we could kill off our enemies. Make them suffer for what they've done to us." Starla spat bitterly. Generally, she was a peaceful person and didn't enjoy violence, but the Malfoy's were a different case. She absolutely despised the Malfoy's for ruining her family and would do anything to get back at them. No one, not even her mother, knew about these thoughts. No one knew the scars she carried, she'd never gotten close enough to share anything with anyone. But she was sure that someday, she would get her revenge. She would cause the Malfoy family more pain than they had caused her, and she had the brains to do it.

Amity blinked in suprise. The sudden thoughts of violence weren't something she'd ben expecting. "But wouldn't that make us just as bad as they are? I mean, I'm all for revenge, ut I don't think poisoning them is the way to go. Now, showing them up in class, humiliating them in a Quidditch match, those would be okay, but..." she trailed off. She was the type who was wholly against violence, whether in protest or in revenge. She was the type to plot and plot and plot, and humiliate the enemy. Not kill them. Peaceful protest and all that, right?

"I... you're right. I get a bt carried away sometimes. My apologies." Starla sighed. It wasn't right for her to kill them, even after what they had done to her. She didn't want to be like them, but sometimes she just wished there was something she could do.. something horrible. She shook the thoughts from her head andfocused back on the page. "Anyways.. Hopefully this summer I can go hunting for the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks again. Now that I've got more information. Would you mind if I checked this book out for awhile?"
