"You don't really like the water do you? Afraid of the Giant Squid? He's really quite friendly when you get to know him." Starla assured her. Starla had met the squid on numerous occasions. She'd even attempted to learn to speak squid so they could become friends. As far as she was concerened, the squid had a rash under his shortest tentacle that sprouted tiny plants with berries. Really, the squid was just asking if she'd had too much butterbeer.

"No, its not that...." she said, taking another jello and spooning more of her first into her mouth. She hated telling people she couldn't swim. They always offered to teach her. They didn't get that being anywhere near the water freaked her out.

"Oh. Well, all the creatures are nice really. There's no need to worry about any of them." Starla shrugged. She thought Allison was okay with creatures, but what else would make her afraid of the lake? The water itself was crystal clear and you could easily see almost to the bottom. Starla took another bite of her food, deciding to leave the matter alone.

Allie just kind of sat there, debating on whether to tell Starla or not. It wasn;t like she thought Starla would laugh at her or anything, it was the fact that she was afraid other people would hear. It was her most kept secret, and she intended to keep it that way... But Starla seemed nice enough, and she did need a friend oher than Amity... But she wasn't sure if she was ready to sheare her secrets yet.

Starla watched her with curiosity. She seemed to be arguing with herself. Starla was quite familiar with the expression, as she had it quite often herself. "You don't have to talk about it.. I can tell it's personal." Starla interjected into Allie's thoughtful silence. Starla was very intuitive, but never pushy. She usually let things go, unless they were of dire importantce.

Allie jumped a little. "O-Oh. Thank you." she said earnestly. She was glad, honestly, that Starla wasn't going to push it. She didn't like talking about it very much. It was embarrasing... And she always turned really red.

Starla giggled a bit as Allie turned red. She didn't know that she was so.. embarassed by everything. Wait.. maybe it's just that she's being seen with me.. Starla's smile quickly diminished. She had thought Allie seemed nice a bit reluctant though. I bet she'd be talking up a storm if it was someone else.

"What's wrong?" Allie asked, looking concerned. "I like you a lot, really! I'm just not that good at talking to people.." Or swimming. she added mentally. Her quiet nature was another cause to her friendless life at Hogwarts. They always assumed that she didn't like them, when really, she was just horribly, horribly shy. She felt bad now, like she always did. She hadn't meant to hurt Starla's feelings.

"No, I.. it's nothing. I was just thinking." Starla replied. She didn't want Allie to know that was exactly what she had thought. She knew Allie needed friends too, and she wasn't going to ruin the friendship. A lot of times Starla wondered if it was her own fault she didn't have friends, was it just because she was always so wary of people?

Allie looked relieved. "Okay." she said. "So, uh, how far do you usually run?" she asked, trying to make light conversation. Change the subject to a less...awkward one. Or try to at least. Maybe she could ask about the nargles or something, if this didn't work.

Starla was a bit surprised, Allie was actually making conversation. "Uhm, usually only a mile or two. Depends on how I feel." Starla shrugged. Sometimes, when Starla had a lot on her mind, she ran even farther just to take her mind off of everything. Other times she was just too exhausted to run very far at all. "How far are you up to running?"

"I don't really mind." she said. She, unlike her sister, could not swim, so she usually ran. Or jogged, or whatever. She was way too shy to do track or anything like that though, too much fame. Amity liked people knowing her name, for her swimming triumphs, contradictory to Allie's beliefs.

"Okay. I guess we'll decide in the morning." Starla shrugged. She didn't really care about having every detail planned out, she liked to do things as she went. Starla polished off her food with a satisfied grin. "Well, I'm all done here. I guess I'll see you around the commons and such." Starla cheerily said goodbye to her new friend and frolicked off to the commons.

Allie waved and continued munching on her jello. A new friend... She'd have to think of a way to thank Amity later. She smiled as she finished off her food, getting an idea. Aity had had her eyes on that new broomstick ever since they saw it in Diagon Alley. If she sent the money, her father would buy it and send it up to the school. She stood, finished, and walked up to the commonroom to look for her money. She was sure she had enough.
